According to the Denver Post, opposing executives expect the Rockies to be aggressive in their pursuit of New York Mets third baseman David Wright. Although the Mets have said numerous times that Wright is not available, that could change if they commit to re-sign Jose Reyes to big money. Troy E. Renck also went on to say Wright is not to come without issues. He is 28, has dealt with a back injury that limited him to only 102 games last season. Wright is also owed $15 million next year with a $16 million club option for 2013, which can be voided if the Mets trade him. Troy also as said that Wright hitting anywhere else but Citi Field would likely boost Wright's offensive numbers.
I believe that if the Mets re-sign Jose Reyes to a big contract like everyone assumes they will, David Wright is probably staying put. I don't see the reasoning to lose both your young star infielders, one via free agency and one via trade. Wright's unproductive numbers in 2011 were because of a back injury he suffered in which he tried to play through the pain. As we saw coming back 100% healthy and pain free that Wright started to hit like his used to regardless if the strikeouts and errors occurred. I have a strong feeling that in 2012 the left side of the New York Mets infield will be Jose Reyes (SS) and David Wright (3B) for years to come. Many may disagree but when these two are on their games, they can compete with the best.
