Justin Turner Walks-off, As Mets Beat Cubs 5-4

Justin Turner doubled in the winning run in the 9th inning and the Mets defeat the struggling Cubs 5-4. Turner also had a tiebreaking double in the 5th inning while compiling three hits in the game. Jason Bay continued to stay hot at the plate, doubling twice and throwing a runner out at the plate as the Mets take the opener of the 3-game series which concludes on Sunday. Sunday Night the Mets will have a pregame ceremony to mark the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

David Wright and Jason Bay each had RBIs in the game to help the Mets overcome their early deficit for their 11th win in their last 16 games. Mike Pelfrey bounced back from a shaky start as the Mets were able to complete the comeback in the 9th inning. Reyes, who contines to hold the batting lead from Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, blooped a double in the 5th inning and scored on a Justin Turner soft double to put the Mets up 4-3. Reyes has hit safely in 12 games since returning from the DL with his strained hamstring.

In Case You Missed It:

- Mets ace Johan Santana, who has been sideline all season with shoulder surgery, threw three innings in a rehab start with Savannah Sand Gnats in a South Atlantic League playoff game. In his start he gave up 2 hits and an unearned run, while walking and striking out one. He threw 39 pitches, 27 for strikes.

- I’m not looking for results. I’m not looking for velocity,” manager Terry Collins said. “I’m looking to see how he comes out of this tomorrow.”
