Mets Unsure If They Will Go To 7-Years

The Mets are highly unlikely to go to a 7 year contract for Jose Reyes this off-season. According to Andy Martino of  the New York Daily News, The Mets are still wary of a contract resembling the seven-years, $142 million deal that Boston awarded Crawford.

I still believe Reyes will ultimately re-sign with the Mets in a possible 5-years $100 million deal with a 6th year at $20 million team option. With the fact that Sandy Alderson held on to Reyes during the trade deadline shows that he still has interest in re-signing the soon to be Free Agent short stop. Reyes, 28, is having by far one of his best seasons with the New York Mets in his 8 years with the club.

Reyes who has a career high in hits 204 (2008), triples 19 (2008), stolen bases 78 (2007) and batting average .339 (currently) is set to have a huge pay day. Whether Reyes stays or leaves this off-season, he has to be one of the most exciting player in the game to watch. Hopefully Sandy Alderson and Jose Reyes come to an agreement this off-season so we can have Reyes in a Mets uniform for years to come.

If the Mets fail to re-sign Reyes this off-season, they will likely be able to obtain a pair of top draft picks if they offer the shortstop arbitration and he declines to sign elsewhere. Reyes is projected as a Type-A Free Agent.
