New York comes home after falling 3-2 to the Nationals on Sunday, even with Scott Hairston's two solo homeruns were not enough  to help the Mets get the victory. "It’s frustrating to lose back-to-back games,” Hairston said. “We’re playing good as a whole. … There’s a lot of time left.” On the recent 10-game road trip the Mets went 6-4, while sweeping the Reds in a 4-game series. Mets swept that 4-game series against the Reds for the 1st time since 2003. Now the Mets come home to Citi Field on a 10-game home stand. This could be a key week for them as the end the home stand with a 3-game series against the Atlanta Braves.

David Wright makes his return to Citi Field for the first time in nearly three month's since going on the DL in May for a stress fracture in his lower back. Wright missed 58 games with a stress fracture in his lower back before being activated July 22 against the Marlins. During the 10-game road trip, Wright was batting .455 (20- for-44) with two homers and 12 RBIs while the Mets went 6-4. Wright is expected to take the field in New York for the first time since going 0-for-3 on May 8 in a loss to the Dodgers. At that time Wright was hitting .242.

Mike Pelfrey is 0-7 with a 5.40 ERA in 14 starts versus the Marlins since a 17-3 slaughter in his major league debut against them on July 8, 2006. On July 22nd, Pelfrey looked like his was going to get his second career win against the Marlins but the bullpen could not hold  the lead and he suffered a no-decision.
