Tim Byrdak Agrees to Extension

First move has been made by GM Sandy Alderson before the off-season started, by agreeing to a contract extension for the 2012 season with lefty reliever Tim Byrdak. Prior to the 2011 season, Byrdak signed a minor league deal with the Mets and has pitched well for them this season. In 37.1 innings (69 appearances), Byrdak has posted his career best in ERA with 2.89 and K/9 11.09.

In 107 at-bats this season, opposing hitters have just 20 hits against Byrdak posting a .208 batting average against and limiting them to just two homeruns and 6 RBIs. Lefties also have wiffed 35 times against him.
