Mets Get Swept By Braves in Double-Header

After being force to make-up the Auguts 27-28 games against the Braves due to Hurricane Irene, the Mets get swept by the Wild Card leading Braves. Making his Major League Debut, Chris Schwinden didn't seem to have his good stuff against Atlanta. He gave up three runs with two outs in the 1st inning, and gave up two more runs and left trailing 5-4 after throwing 100 pitches through five innings. But after Schwinden gave up those runs is the top half, Jason Bay backed him up with a Grand Slam in the bottom half of the 1st inning to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.

“I think it was probably nerves more than anything,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “I’ve seen him pitch enough to know that his command is always pretty good. I’m sure he was just a little nervous today. He left some balls up in the zone that they hit pretty hard.”

Chris Schwinden was a 22nd round draft pick in 2008 and went 8-8 with a 3.95 ERA for the Triple-A Bisons this year. He retired his first batter, then gave up a double to Chipper Jones, while walking Brian McCann. Uggla grounded out but Freddie Freeman doubled in two more runs. “The nerves took over a bit. It kind of messed with my mechanics,” said Schwinden, whose dad was at the game.

Bottom half of the 1st, Minor got the first two easy outs but ran into trouble with the heart of the Mets line-up. Lucas Duda single, Wright doubled and Pagan walked setting the stage for Jason Bay with the bases loaded. Sure enough Bay hit his second grandslam of the season and 4th of his career.
