Mets 70-71 vs Braves 82-60 Preview (Game 1)

Chris Schwinden 0-0, 0.00 ERA
Mike Minor 4-2, 4.09 ERA

Chris Schwinden is set to make his major league debut in the today double-header opener, and he’ll look to help the Mets get back to .500 for the first time since they were 58-58 on August 10th. Schwinden was a 22nd-round pick in 2008, and went 8-8 with a 3.95 ERA in 26 starts for Triple-A Buffalo this year.

The Mets have won 10 of 13 overall after scoring in the first inning and holding on for a 1-0 win over Florida on Wednesday. Lucas Duda drove in the only run on Wednesday for the Mets with his 1st inning double and he ranks second in the National League among Rookies with 33 RBIs since the All-Star Break. Jose Reyes went 1-for-2 with two walks, reaching base his first three times at bat. That gave him six straight times on base. He also regained the NL batting lead from Milwaukee's Ryan Braun.

R.A Dickey earned his ninth straight quality start by going seven strong shutout innings. He is now 3-0 against the Marlins this season and has not allowed a run against them in 20 innings. Manny Acosta earned his 1st save since August 18m 2010, when he pitched a spotless 14th inning for the Mets against the Astros. Chris Schwinden is set to make his major league debut tonight against the Braves. He has recently been with the Triple-A Affiliate Buffalo Bisons this year. He looks to help the Mets take this double-header against Atlanta.

Dillon Gee is set to pitch the 2nd game of the Double-header. Gee is the Mets’ wins leader, but he’s posted a 7.18 ERA in six starts since the beginning of August, which includes a rough outing against the Braves. In that start, Gee allowed five runs and 3 homeruns in five innings of a 6-5 loss to the Braves on August 7th, but got a no-decision in that effort. Gee had been 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA in his three previous starts, all New York wins vs. the Braves in 2011.

Quoted By Terry Collins: "I'm sure everybody is anxious for the new ballpark. This time of year, it's tough to play here. The weather beats you down. Lots of rain delays. They're playing football on the field, the field gets chewed up." - On the Mets playing their last game at Sun Life Stadium
