Mets Thursday lineup vs. Florida: Reyes-SS, Tejada-2B, Duda-RF, Wright-3B, Pagan-CF, Bay-LF, Evans-1B, Thole-C, Batista-RHP
The Mets have bounced back from Tuesday’s shutout loss by rallying for a 3-2 win Wednesday. The Mets are hitting .292 and the pitching staff has posted a 2.17 ERA during a 5-1 stretch that began with wins over the Phillies and Braves. They are trying to take a step closer toward .500, as they wrap up a five-game series with the Marlins tonight at Citi Field. Duda had a tiebreaking single in the seventh inning Wednesday, and Jason Bay snapped his 0-for-17 slump with and infield single. Bay finished the night with three hits. “That relaxed me, and I went from there,” said Bay, who raised his average against the Marlins this season 76 points to .219.
Miguel Batista is set to make his debut with the Mets tonight, making that his 11th major league team and is trying to win his 100th career game of his career. Batista appeared in 26 games, including one start, with the Cardinals before being released in June. Batista hasn't faced the Marlins since July 28th, 2003 with the Diamondbacks.
Jason Bay hasn't really been the player the Mets thought they were getting when this signed him in the off-season of the 2009 season. Bay is finishing his second straight season with the Mets without showing the kind of power he has with the Pirates and Redsox. Bay is a 4-time 30-homerun hitter and in 197 games with the Mets, he only has 15 total homeruns since signing that 4-years $66MM contract in Decemeber of 2009. He also missed nearly half of last season due to a concussion and the first three weeks this year due to a rib injury.
