Mike Pelfrey 7-10, 4.60 ERA |
Javier Vazquez 7-11, 4.63 ERA |
The Mets opened a 5-game home series against the Marlins Monday in which the sweep the day/night doubleheader. R.A Dickey and Dillion Gee combined to pitch 13 innings and allowing one run in their victories. Mike Pelfrey will take the mound for the Mets tonight as he comes out well rested in leading the Mets to their fifth straight win. Pelfrey was on the mound when the win streak started, but wasnt't very impressive in his last victory.
Jose Reyes returned to the line-up in the night cap after missing three weeks with a strained left hamstring. He went 1-for-4 and a run scored in his return. Manager Terry Collins had this to say when Reyes returned back to the line-up, “He’s the catalyst on this club, make no mistake.”
The Mets are currently on a four game win streak, which is their longest streak since winning five straight on July 25-29. Mets have allowed just two runs in their last three games. This current win streak began in Philadelphia, when Pelfrey allowed three runs and 9 hits in six innings to earn a 7-4 victory. Although Pelfrey didn't pitch deep into the game, he threw a career-high 125 pitches. It was the fifth time this year he threw for at least 116 pitches in a start. In the first four times he had that many pitches, he had a 6.75 ERA in his four following starts. Last week’s win was Pelfrey’s first since July 27, and he will look to end a 15-start personal winless streak against the Marlins. Pelfrey has not beat the Marlins since July 8th, 2006, it was his major league debut, since then he has gone 0-7 with a 5.23 ERA in 15 starts versus the Marlins.
