Gnats Beat Grasshoppers 7-3 to Even the Series

The Savannah Sand Gnats even the score against the Greensboro Grasshoppers in a best of five South Atlantic League Championship series with a 7-3 win. The Gnats scored five runs from the 3rd inning through the 8th innings to break the 2-2 tie and take control of the game. Gnats took a 3-2 lead in the 3rd inning when CF Darrell Ceciliani scored on a wild pitch. In the 4th inning, 3B Aderlin Rodriguez singled, adavnaced to second and scored a run on the Grasshoppers error.

After that, the Gnats put the game out of reach with two more homeruns, which was their fourth and fifth in the last two games in Greensboro. Going into the 7th inning, 2B Luis Nieves hit a solo homer to right field to put the Gnats up 5-2. This was the 1st homerun of the year for Nieves, who has played 87 games for the Gnats in the regular season without a homer. Rodriguez then put the Gnats up 7-2 with his eight inning homerun that he crushed into Left field.

Savannah's starter Yohan Almonte relived starter Gonzalez German in the fourth inning and gave the Gnats five outstanding innings out of the bullpen to earn his 1st win in his first appearance of the post-season. Almonte struck out five, walked two and gave up four hits which were all singles.
