The Mets scored six unearned runs off Johnny Cueto with the help of three errors by the Reds defense.  Each misplay led to a pair of runs and helped the Mets beat the Reds’ toughest starter. Despite giving up 6 runs, none of which we earned, Cueto lowered his ERA from 1.98 to 1.88. Niese went five innings for the win, which moved the Mets back above .500 at 52-51. Niese didn't look particularly sharp in this game giving up five runs in five innings of work. Wright continued his hitting streak since returning from DL. The cleanup hitter had two more hits and drove in a run, improving to 10-for-24 (.417) with seven RBIs in his five games back.

Niese, who became the Mets first 10-game winner, lost his control in the fifth, making it his final inning. “I felt good early,” Niese said. “In the fifth inning, I just lost command. All my pitches were up. When your offense gives you a lead like that, you don’t want to give it up. Unfortunately it was one of those days, one of those innings.” Although Niese didn't have his good stuff tonight, the Mets played as a team and backed him up for him to earn his 10th win of the season. Brydak struck out Jay Bruce to end the game, earning his 1st save since 2007 with the Detroit Tigers.

Game Notes:
  • Niese's Line - 5.0IP 6H 5R 2BB 5K 1HR (81 pitches, 52 for Strikes)

  • Reyes went hitless for the 1st time since July 20th vs. Cardinals
  • Wright is now 10-for-24 (.417), HR and 7 RBIs since returning from the DL.
