R.A Dickey 5-11, 3.75 ERA |
Aaron Harang 11-3, 3.95 ERA |
Mets Monday lineup at San Diego: Pagan-CF, Turner-2B, Wright-3B, Duda-1B, Bay-LF, Pridie-RF, Thole-C, Tejada-SS, Dickey-RHP
Despite beating the Mets last week, Harang is 1-3 with a 6.98 ERA in his last four starts against them. David Wright is 9-for-15 lifetime against Harang, while Jason Bay has hit 17-for-49 (.347) with five homers and six doubles. Wright and Bay have combined for only a single in six at-bats against him Wednesday. Dickey lost to Harang in that game and will oppose him again tonight at Petco Park. Dickey is trying to avoid losing a fourth straight start, which would match a career high when he was with the Rangers from May 13-28, 2004. In his last three starts, Dickey posted a 3.79 ERA and has only received four runs of support.
“Once in a while, that happens to guys, where it just seems the day they pitch, the team doesn’t play well,” manager Terry Collins told the team’s official website. “I don’t have an answer to it.”
The Mets have lost 11 of 14 games, including five in a row since last beating the Padres on August 9th, in a 5-4 victory. "It's an issue for sure. We've got to throw strikes and we're not doing that. It's displayed in this series. We've got to do better, got to pitch better, from all parts. This game is all about pitching and always will be about pitching. If you don't pitch you're going to get beat." Terry Collins on on the Mets' current pitching troubles. Angel Pagan is batting .371 with two homers in the past eight games, in which both of those home runs came against the Padres at Citi Field, but he owns a .156 average in 10 visits to Petco Park.
