Mike Pelfrey 6-9, 4.53 ERA |
Daniel Hudson 11-8, 3.83 ERA |
Mets Saturday lineup at Arizona: Pagan-CF, Harris-2B, Wright-3B, Duda-1B, Bay-LF, Paulino-C, Baxter-RF, Tejada-SS, Pelfrey-RHP
Mike Pelfrey has pitched well on the road lately, going 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in his last four away from Citi Field after going 1-7 with a 6.75 ERA in his first 10 road outings. Pelfrey hopes to bring that success to Chase Field against the D-Backs because he owns a 9.68 ERA in losing all four starts, his highest ERA at any ballpark. Pelfrey was also solid in his lone start of the season against the Diamondbacks at home on April 22, holding them to a run on five hits in seven innings of a 4-1 victory. In his last start on Monday against San Diego, he gave up four runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 9-8 win. Pelfrey got the no decision in that contest.
Jason Bay's resurgence at the plate hasn’t been enough to prevent the Mets from losing three straight and nine of 12. Seems to me that Bay tends to get hot at the wrong times in which the Mets are already done from the post-season. Makes me feel that Bay can't take the pressure in big games and come through in the clutch. Bay went 3-for-4 with an RBI on Friday, and is batting .415 with three homers and 10 RBIs in his last 14 games, raising his average 31 points to .254. “I feel like I am a hitter in that box and don’t worry about anything else,” Bay said.
For Bay to say he feels like a hitter now in August makes you wonder where was this kind of hitter from April to July? I question the fact that Jason Bay does not want to be that go to guy to help this team win games. After getting a $66M contract from former Mets GM Omar Minaya, Bay hasn't been what the Mets have expected he could be. Granted he has more homeruns this year then the previous year being a Met, shows that Jason Bay cannot shine in the spotlight. Hopefully the Mets can salvage this series and win today and take the series again tomorrow.

- Even with Friday's loss to the National League West-leading Diamondbacks, the Mets are above .500 at 13-12 against the teams currently in first place in their divisions this season.
- Jason Bay was 3-for-4 Friday, raising his batting average to .254. It's the highest that it has been since May 7.
- Angel Pagan returned to the Mets lineup after sitting out one game because of back spasms. He went 2-for-5 with two singles.
- Justin Turner sat out Friday's game, and Mets manager Terry Collins said he will likely sit him Saturday, too, as well as at least one game in San Diego. Collins said he sat Turner to try to heal up some bumps and bruises.
- Dillon Gee served up four runs in the first two innings and lost again. It's his fourth of the season and fourth in his last nine starts."If he doesn't make a good pitch, he gets away from things. He's got to stick with what made him successful. He's a human being. He's going to make a mistake. He's going to leave a fastball in the middle of the plate. He wanted that ball down, he didn't get it down. The greatest in the game do it. But you can't get away from your game plan and that's what he's doing." Terry Collins said on Dillion Gee's troubles.
