Monday Mets lineup vs. the Padres: Pagan-CF, Turner-2B, Wright-3B, Duda-1B, Bay-LF, Harris-RF, Paulino-C, Tejada-SS, Pelfrey-RHP
After a tough loss to the Braves in the rubber game in which they lost 6-5, The Mets suffered a huge blow to their playoff chances. The Mets are likely to be without Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy in the up coming 4-game series against the Padres. Daniel Murphy will be out for the season with a tore MCL he suffered in the game against the Braves, when OF Constanza spiked Murphy in the leg while trying to apply the tag. Reyes looks likely to be going on the DL as well as he suffered a stiff hamstring running to first base.
Sandy Alderson said he thought Reyes hurt himself running out a first-inning grounder, and it appears the he has a mild hamstring pull. It’s the same injury that cost him more than two weeks in July.“We’ve been struggling offensively as it is. Now we lose a guy hitting .335 and another guy hitting .320, obviously that’s going to be difficult to overcome,” said Wright, who replaced Reyes at shortstop Sunday for the first time in his major league career. “We know it’s going to be a tremendous uphill battle to try to score runs.”
Although it looks unlike the Mets will make the post-season for the 5th straight year, they still have a chance to play .500 baseball or better. It is heartbreaking to see Murphy go down like that because he is second on the team in both batting at .320 and RBIs with 49. Hopefully 2012 will be bright for Murphy however the Mets decide to go once Spring Training comes around. Until then the Mets still have baseball to play and set to take on the Padres in a 4-game series for their 1st meeting of the season. This will be Pelfrey’s first start against the Padres since facing them twice last year.
