Since the Mets were on a 5-game winning streak, things have started to go down hill since then. The Mets have been outscored 21-9 during this current five-game slide. “We’ve got to give our (pitchers) some support,” manager Terry Collins said. “We’ve got to give these guys something to relax with a little bit.” In Niese's last outting against the Nationals, he didn’t get any run support during his 5 1-3 innings Sunday. He allowed two runs while striking out six and not getting a decision in a 3-2 loss. A lack of run support has been shown in his last five home starts in which he has a 3.82 ERA but is just 1-3 in those games.

The Mets are currently faced with a huge uphill deficit in which they are currently 9 games out of the wild card and 17.5 games back in the division. It's probably gonna be hard to gain ground against the Braves and two other teams to win the wild card. With that said, unless the Mets strike lightening in a bottle, it looks like the season is already over.

The Mets have scored nine runs during their recent slide while getting two hits and an RBI from David Wright. Daniel Murphy recorded a hit and a run scored in the 4-1 loss and has hit safely in 20 of his last 24 games. The Mets are 18-25 against the NL East this season, while the Mets and Braves have split 10 meetings this season.
