Matt Harvey Could Be in the Majors in 2012

"Once a guy gets to Double-A, anything can happen…I think 2012 at some point is conceivable. I think definitely 2013 would be an expectation on our part.” - Sandy Alderson

I think its to early to say if Matt Harvey is ready for the Majors. Given how he has blown away hitters in Single-A, then struggled a little after being promoted to Double-A Binghamton, I think Harvey should be giving time to develop. Harvey who was drafted in the 1st round, 7th overall, in the 2010 Amateur Draft, has been nothing but great news for the New York Mets. I truely believe Harvey will be in the starting rotation for the Mets in 2013.

St. Lucie Mets:
  • 14 games started - 8-2 record
  • 76.0 innings pitched
  • 67 hits given up
  • 24 walks, 92 strikeouts
  • Opponents batting average .238
Binghamton Mets:
  • 8 games started - 2-3 record
  • 39.2 innings pitched
  • 44 hits given up
  • 11 walks, 48 strikeouts
  • Oppnents batting average .282
Seeing the splits for Harvey in the different divisions in the minors, I like to see Harvey pitch a full year in the minors either with Binghamton or Buffalo so he can be ready for the Mets in 2013. As you can see Harvey does not walk many batters and is what the Mets envisioned he be, a Power Pitcher. In 22 games between Single-A and Double-A, Harvey is 10-5 with an 3.27 ERA, walking 35 and striking out 140 in 115.2 innings pitched. Opponents have a .254 average in the 22 games he has started. In his last three starts for Binghamton, 2-0, 2.12 ERA, 17.0IP 13H 4ER 3BB 20K.

  1. I feel like Matt Harvey will get the call to #Mets sometime around late July early August if he has a good first half

  2. He has a 95+ MPH fastball, he has a nasty curveball and change-up as well, future looks bright for him and the Mets, cannot wait to see him come up
