D-Backs Complete The Sweep, As Mets Fall In The Desert 5-3

Justin Upton homered and Paul Goldschmidt double twice to help the D-Back complete a 3-game series win against the Mets in a 5-3 victory. Unfortunately for D-Back's starter Jason Marquis, acquired in a July 30 trade from Washington, was hit on the right shin by a line drive and left the game one inning later with a broken fibula. Pagan hit a line drive off Marquis’ right shin in the third inning but the Marquis remained in the game at first not knowing he had a broken fibula at the time. An inning later, Marquis hit Thole with a pitch and dropped to the ground after his delivery, clutching his right shin.

Right before Marquis hit Thole and made his exit from the game, Duda gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the fourth with a solo homer. The only bright spots for the Mets were Lucas Duda and Angel Pagan. Duda had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two and Pagan went 3-for-4. The Mets have lost five straight and fall to 4 games under .500 for the 1st time since June 4th.

In Case You Missed It:

  • Capuano's Line - 6.0IP 9H 4R 0BB 6K (L)
  • Mike Pelfrey, who left Saturday’s start after taking a line drive off his right elbow, had X-rays and is set to make his next start.
  • D-Backs are 15 games over .500 for the first time since 2007, the year they won the NL West.
  • Capuano’s zero-walk game was his sixth of the season and first since June 29 against the Tigers.
  • Wright  doubled in the first to extend the Mets’ streak to 12 consecutive games with at least one double.
  • R.A Dickey will make his first career start in San Diego’s Petco Park on Monday.
  • Arizona is a major league-best 62-0 when leading after eight innings.
