With Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran likely to be in the line-up tonight verse St. Louis, they get the much need offense they have been starving for the past couple games. Reyes who still leads all of the majors with his (.354) batting average, looks to be the catalyst once again for this team in hopes to start a winning streak. David Wright continues to rehab in Florida and is eligible to rejoin the team Friday against the Marlins. As a Mets fan who wants this team to succeed and win games, seems as if 9.5 games back in the wildcard is probably to hard to comeback from. Especially with the fact that the Braves are currently leaders and 18 games over .500.
In the 15 games Reyes has missed this season, the Mets’ leadoff batters hit .197. “Any team in this league that loses guys like that are going to have a tough time getting offense generated,” manager Terry Collins said. “But we still have to plug away and put the ball in play and spread the ball around and run the bases a little bit better and be aggressive on the bases, and we just didn’t do that.”
