“I’ve made it very clear to this organization that I want to finish my career here,” Beltran said Friday. “But at the same time you understand that organizations have plans — sometimes they’re not plans you think of — so like I said, I’m prepared for everything…I feel like all the years I’ve played here, I feel like every single year we had a good team and the organization was willing to do everything possible to put teams together that could win championships,” Beltran said. “Unfortunately, as a player, we didn’t do it, we couldn’t come through as a team. But I guess every single year we have a chance, as ballplayers we feel like we have a chance here…When I play the game, I don’t play the game just to prove the organization anything,” Beltran said. “I play because I know I can play the game, so it’s their decision whether or not they want to keep me or they wanna trade me. Whatever decision they make, I will understand it…” - Beltran, quoted by @ESPNNewYork
Since coming to the Mets in 2005, signing a 7-year $119M contract via FA, looks like Beltran's time with the Mets may be coming to a close. Me personally i have enjoyed watching Beltran play Center field and now Right Field for us. His first year with the Mets in 05 wasn't the typically year a player would like to have but rebounded in 2006-08. Then the injuries came and went but one thing about Beltran, when he played he always put it all out there. Some fans may disagree and some may agree, Beltran is one player that was the base of this offense in the years we were in the race. In 2006, was Beltran's biggest year with the Mets, hitting 41 Homeruns (tieing Todd Hundley's mark in 1996) and 116 RBIs. He offense help the Mets win there first division title since 1988. Beltran continued to be productive in 07' and 08', but injuries in 09' and 10' limited him to his potential.
But 2011, his final year with the Mets, he is hitting .287 (94-for-308), 14 homeruns and 59 RBIs. He has also played in 90 games this year for the Mets, which is the most by any player on the team.
If this is in fact the final year or month for Beltran, its been a great time to see him play here in Queens. Granted Beltran has been through good times, bad times & ugly times, we as fans should appreciate what he has done for us in the time he was here. Carlos Beltran will always be a favorite met of mines whether he says, gets traded or moves on.
