
Mets back up Santana (11-7) for there 1st win after the all-star break. Santana pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just five hits, walked two and struck out five in a 5-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. Mets needing a much need win, looked to there Ace to get the job done. Mets scored there first two runs in the sixth inning, when Braves pitcher Kawakami walked Reed to force in a run. Followed by Santos grounding into a fielder's choice scoring David Wright from third. Things got a little close in the bottom of the eighth inning with Chipper Jones took Pedro Feliciano deep to cut the lead to 2-1. Pat Misch ran into trouble later in the inning walking Ryan Church to load the bases. Manuel then went to his pen once again bring in his fourth pitcher of the inning to get three outs. Strokes then ran the count to 3-1 on Greg Norton with 2 outs in the inning. Stroke redeemed himself by striking out Norton with back-to-back fastballs to end the inning still leading 2-1.
Then the Mets unloaded with three unanswered runs in the top of the ninth with Pagan scoring Castillo with an rbi triple. Manny Acosta then walked Murphy, who then stole second. They intentionally walked Wright for the third time in the game to pitch to Jeff Francoeur. Francoeur then singled up the middle scoring Murphy from third, moving Wright to third and Francoeur ended up on second base when the Braves had no one covering the bag. Francisco Rodriguez then came in and shut the door on the Braves 1-2-3 to record his 24th save of the season.

Mets look to redeem themselves with a win tomorrow, splitting the series against the Braves. Tomorrow's pitchers are Fernando Nieve against Javier Vazquez.
