According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork, the New York Mets have released reliever Ryota Igarashi. Igarashi who is now 32 years old, has finished his 2-years $3 million deal since coming over to the states from Japan. In 45 games with the Mets this season, Ryota went 4-1 while posting an ERA of 4.66. Since joining the Mets from Japan which spanned two years, Igarashi went 5-2 with an ERA of 5.74 in 69 innings pitched and appeared in 79 games total. He also gave up 72 hits, 46 walks and 67 strikeouts.
Since the Mets signed Igarashi he started off great but with a hamstring injury that all changed. Ever since that injury Igarashi has never gotten back to the form he once was when he first pitched for the Mets. Igarashi told ESPNNewYork.com at the end of the season that he wanted to continue his major league career in 2012.
