"Wright is an excellent player who, despite the multi-year horror movie he has seen, wants to stay. This is worth noting again, after reports Thursday morning said that Wright was on waivers this month – a very small deal, by the way, and not the first time he’s been on waivers. … As for Reyes, he is an irreplaceable superstar, and worth the injury risk. The National League East competition is re-loading, and a New York team keeps its homegrown stars. These two, especially, are worth it.” - Andy Martino, Daily News
I agree with Andy on this one in which the Mets should retain both Jose Reyes and David Wright. Both players have expressed their desire to play in the big city of New York. Not many players can deal with the media New York possess and not many superstars can play in such a city with the toughest critics. Jose Reyes and Wright are both homegrown talents that have came up through the minor league system and broke into the Major Leagues and never turned back. Both players are on pace to own every single all-time Mets record if they both stay on the team.
The Big question is, Will Jose Reyes re-sign with the New York Mets? Everyone has thrown out the whole Reyes wants Carol Crawford money (7-years $142M), but is that really true or are well just assuming because of the type of year Reyes is having barring the injuries, he would command a deal of that nature. Just recently, David Wright was put on waivers by the Mets and the team supposedly that put a claim in for him was the Colorado Rockies. We all know Wright has had his share of injuries, inconsistency and strike out problems but when Wright is on a tear no one can get him out. With that being said, Sandy Alderson is going to have a tough time this off-season in deciding which direction he wants to go with the team. Does he re-sign Reyes and stick with Wright or will he let them both walk, Wright being traded.
