With facing yet another sweep, The Mets offense came alive as they beat the Phillies 7-4. Mike Pelfrey was determined to get a win against the team he has struggled against, in which he went six inning and a career-high 125 pitches. Pelfrey pitched effectively but struggling in the 2nd inning, where he threw 42 pitches. David Wright and Nick Evans homered for the Mets as they snapped a five-game losing streak with a win today. “He came off the field after the fifth and said, `I got one more,”’ Mets manager Terry Collins said. “I needed one more. He got us to where we needed. That was huge for him.”

Mike Pelfrey allowed three runs and nine hits in six innings of work. He nearly caused benches to empty in the sixth when he took exception to the way Polanco turned away from a pitch he threw inside. “I hung a slider. I thought he tried to lean into it. I said: `Don’t lean into it.’ He said he didn’t. Done,” said Pelfrey, who got his first win since July 27.

Bobby Parnell came into the 9th in a new role, as closer, in a 7-4 game. He pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of this season and just second of his career.
