"This is the tough time of the year,” manager Terry Collins told the Mets’ official website. “This is when, when you’re really struggling, you’ve got to reach down inside. You’ve got to find that energy and somehow transfer it into your performance.”

The only bright spot for the Mets is IF/OF Lucas Duda. Duda who has two homers and six RBIs over his last four games, hit a two-run shot in the eighth inning. With Nick Evans on the team, Duda will see plenty of action in Right Field in hopes he can be the future RF for the Mets. Since taking over for Beltran, Duda has been hitting the ball well and hitting with power.

Mike Pelfrey will take the mound once again in hopes of his first win of the month. Pelfrey is is 0-1 with a 4.64 ERA in four August starts, including a 6-1 loss to Milwaukee on Friday in which he gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings. He is 0-2 with a 7.58 ERA in four starts against the Phillies this season. He had gone 2-1 with a 2.11 ERA in his previous three starts versus Philadelphia. The Mets look to salvage this series by avoiding their 2nd sweep in as many games, last one coming over the weekend against the Brewers.

In Case You Missed It:
- Jose Reyes will play three games, Thursday through Saturday, for Class AA Binghamton as he completes his rehabilitation from a strained left hamstring. Reyes is expected to join the Mets for Monday's doubleheader against the Marlins.

- Angel Pagan left Monday's game with a stomach issue, which he said was due to colitis, which he was diagnosed with in 2004. Pagan has been on medication for the condition, but landed on the disabled list with the problem in 2007 while with the Cubs.

-  Scott Hairston also suffered a strain to his left ribcage Tuesday. He pinch-hit in the seventh inning and suffered the injury, which manager Terry Collins would require a trip to the disabled list.

- Two straight nights the Mets have had starting pitchers give up career-worst eight runs. Dillon Gee did it on Monday and Jon Niese duplicated it Tuesday.

- Ruben Tejada moved up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order Tuesday, a reward for his hot hitting of late (.378 entering Tuesday since his Aug. 8 recall from Class AAA Buffalo)
