On the eve of Carlos Beltran being traded to the Giants for prized prospect pitcher, Zack Wheeler, the Mets came out as if they never lost momentum. For the second straight day, Mets scored early in the 1st inning, this time a 2-run RBI double by Angel Pagan scored the 1st two runs for the amazings. But the big bat of the night has to be Daniel Murphy, who has be tearing up the ball as of late. With a career high 4 hits on the game, Murph and the Mets exposed for 8 runs, backing up Mike Pelfrey's stellar performance. Pelfrey who has struggled in his recent games and against the Reds in his career, went the distance striking out three on 108 pitches.
Mike Pelfrey's last complete game came on June 18th vs the Angels in a 6-1 victory. The Mets have took the first 3-games of the 4-game series against the Reds and are looking for the sweep tomorrow. David Wright also has continued to stay hot since coming off the DL with the lower back stress fracture. Wright went 2-for-4 with a HR and 4 RBIs on the night. Chris Capuano (8-10, 4.26 ERA) takes the hill for the Mets as he looks to secure a 4-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds. The Mets haven’t swept a series in Cincinnati since 2003, when they took three games during Great American Ball Park’s inaugural season. Mets are now 53-51 on the season and 2-games above .500.
