The Mets have scored eight or more runs in four of the five road games on this 10-game road trip. They have also scored runs in the 1st inning for the fourth straight day. Chien-Ming Wang made his first start of the season in nearly two years after coming back from Tommy John surgery. Wang last pitched with the New York Yankees on July 4, 2009, then had season-ending surgery two weeks later to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder. It showed early in the game that Wang was a little rusty, giving up 4 earn runs in the first inning.
The offense once again came up huge tonight against the Nationals, pounding out eight runs on 12 hits. The Mets still aren't hitting that many homeruns, but the offense continues to get key two out hits and score more runs, considering how poorly the bullpen has been over the last two days. They could use all the offense they can get. Wright, Bay and Paulino combined 7-for-12, two RBIs and 3 runs as Mets scored four times in the first inning en route to their fifth straight win. It was New York’s major-league leading 33rd road win. Dillion Gee joins Tom Seaver (1967), Jerry Koosman (1968), Jon Matlack (1972) & Ron Darling (1984) as rookies to earn their 10th victory as a New York Met. Jason Isringhausen came on in the 9th to record his fift save of the season.
