Beltran agreed to waive his no-trade clause and accept the trade to San Francisco shortly after the Mets defeated Cincinnati 8-2 yesterday. Lucas Duda has replace Beltran in the mets line-up and produced. Duda went 1-for-3 with a solo homerun in the 6th inning. Replacing Beltran and his .289 average, 15 homers and 66 RBIs now lies with Duda, the team’s 2010 minor league player of the year. Duda is batting .276 with 2HRs and 15 RBIs in 49 games this season with the Mets. He’s been hitting the ball well as of late, batting .433 in his last 14 games, but is much more comfortable defensively playing left and first base. “He’d better get comfortable real fast,” Collins said.
Since the start of the series in Cincinnati, the Mets have been playing good baseball, pitching well enough to win and the offense has been clicking on all cylinders. They’re on the verge of winning four in a row there for the first time since a streak spanning 2003 and 2004. The Reds are trying to avoid dropping five games under .500 for the first time since ending the 2009 season 78-84. Mets are currently 12.5 games back in the division to Philadelphia Phillies and 7.5 games back in the wild card to the leading Atlanta Braves. In 5 games since returning from the DL, Wright is 12-for-28 (.429), 2HRs and 11 RBIs.
