Alderson Speaks to Reyes's Agent

According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork, Sandy Alderson had spoke with Jose Reyes's Agent Peter Greenberg since Reyes made his trip to Miami last week. He is also stated that they are not expect to meet at the GM Meetings because Greenberg will be out of the country. Alderson said he had some coversations with Reyes's Agent but didn't clarify in terms of what they spoke about. Alderson also went on to say he doesn't want to get into any details and at the say time he did not want to give a false impression that they are anywhere along to road in the sense of a deal.He went on to say that there is no use worrying about where Jose Reyes ends up whether it be in the same division or elsewhere because that is simply out of the Mets hands. Also getting a second round pick instead of a first round pick if Reyes signs with the Marlins is out of the hands of the Mets and the organziation as well. “I don’t think Jose ending up anywhere outside the Mets is ideal,” Alderson said. “In terms of in the division or out of the division, ultimately that’s not something we control.”

I personally do not think Sandy Alderson can afford to let Jose Reyes slip out of there hands and sign with a division rival. I think that is unacceptable in the sense they should do whatever is possible to bring Jose back to the Mets. The energy Reyes' brings to this team on and off the field is something the team cannot replace. Granted we have Rubin Tejada ready to step in and take Jose's place if he happens to leave via free agency, but can this team truely move forward knowing that there dynamic SS left the team without even trying to offer him a contract in which it can be affordable to help the team move forward. Honestly letting Jose go can be big mistake and as well as a big risk. The risk in signing him to a 4-5 year contract is that with his recent stints on the DL causes a big concern, but what if that concern isn't a big deal and he is healthy for at least 3-4 years of that contract. This is a big decision Sandy and the Mets organization will face in the coming weeks or months depending on if Reyes signs a quick deal with a team or waits to ultimately get his asking price. In the end I ultimately want the Mets to put the best 25-men out there to win a championship and whether its with or without Reyes i hope this team does the right things moving forward.
