According to Mets officials, the club hasn't ruled Johan out from returning this season after his rehab from September shoulder surgery. His rehab has gone slower than expected but not longer than most pitchers recovering from this similar procedures. “I was relieved it was just fatigue,” Collins said. “He wants to pitch. As soon as he gets back out there, it starts the clock [for him coming back].” Johan last pitched in the majors on September 2nd, 2010 against the Braves.
I personally feel the Mets should just shut Johan Santana down for the season and let him rest. Resting him now would make him 100% healthy and ready for the 2012 season in which he can reclaim his Ace Status again. It makes sense for the simple fact Johan has shoulder fatigue and had the discomfort in the shoulder. I keep my faith in Mets GM Sandy Alderson and the brain trust of this organization in that they know what is the right thing to do with Johan.
