"Right now, we're not hitting and we're not pitching," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "And that's a bad combination."
It's just weird," Gee said. "Tonight I actually felt pretty good physically, I just wasn't locating any of my pitches. It's tough to put a finger on things because I didn't really feel like I threw that much different than I did my last outing. It was just this one, whenever I threw a pitch over the plate, they got a hit. It got out of hand pretty quickly. It was just one of those nights where absolutely nothing would go my way, and I couldn't figure it out."
This has to been the poorest performance I've seen the Mets play in as many games. The offense had no response to Cliff Lee and was dominated the entire game. Not even the bullpen could help Dillon Gee. With the season practically over for New York, makes you wonder what direction this off-season Sandy Alderson will go. Seeing that the Mets need starting pitching, bullpen help, a closer, which will probably be within the organization, probably Bobby Parnell, Alderson has much to consider when the season comes to an end. Monday's loss was their fourth straight, their 16th in their last 22 games and their 22nd in 36 games since the All-Star break. They have lost Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy to injury and Carlos Beltran to trade.
