"I need to own what's mine. Look no further than this locker. I could have easily left this game winning." R.A. Dickey after a struggling appearance Wednesday dropped him to 1-8 at Citi Field this year. Mets looked like it was going to be a third consecutive come from behind win, but it all fell apart in the 9th inning for Bobby Parnell. Once again Parnell struggled to lock down the 9th, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits as the Mets lost 9-5. With their playoff hopes already done, the Mets look to keep there heads high and finish the season above .500.

“We’re not built right now to overcome those big leads,” said David Wright, hitting .355 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 18 games after missing more than two months with a stress fracture in his lower back. Mets are 3-5 heading into the finale of its homestand, will face San Diego’s rookie Cory Luebke, who tries to build off the best start of his rookie season. He’ll be opposed by New York’s Jon Niese, who would love to duplicate his previous start against San Diego. Niese pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks for his first career complete game in the Mets’ 1-0 home win June 10, 2010. Chris Denorfia was the only baserunner for the Padres in that game. Niese has won two of his last three starts overall, including an 11-7 victory over Atlanta on Saturday in which he gave up five runs and 10 hits over five innings.
