Mike Stanton hit a grand slam in the 10th inning after the Mets Lucas Duda hit a game tying 2-run homerun in the 9th to get the mets a 3-3 tie. Stanton is 9-for-24 (.375) with four homers against the mets this year, and five of his 25 homers have come in his last 10 games. “The guy’s a good hitter,” Pelfrey said. “I think Major League Baseball might want to find a way to get him out of the game, because he’s going to hurt somebody.”

Gaby Sanchez is slowly become the patent "Mets Killer" hitting .382 with three homers and four doubles in the nine meetings against the Mets. So far in Gaby's young career, against the Mets he is batting .390 with six homeruns and 24 RBIs.

The Mets are currently on a 3-game losing streak, scoring just five runs in that stretch after coming off a red-hot offensive against the Cincinnati Reds. Before this slump the Mets won five games in which they had averaged 7.6 runs a game and a team batting average of .321.

If the Mets plan to make a playoff push they need to continue to pitch well and put a winning streak together. Not only do they have to pitch well, they need to start scoring more runs like they did in Cincinnati to have a chance at post season baseball. With that being said, David Wright went hitless with a walk Monday in his return to Citi Field for the first time since May 8. Since coming off the DL, Wright is still batting .426 with 12 RBIs in 11 games since coming off the disabled list. Wright and the rest of the Mets will get their first look at rookie Brad Hand, who struggled with control in his sixth start on July 28th. In Hand's last start, he lasted just 3 2/3 innings against the Nationals. He walked six, while throwing 72 pitches.

Capuano takes the ball for the Mets, who has put up good career numbers against the Marlins. The only nemesis that Capuano has to deal with is Gaby Sanchez who is 5-for-9 ( .556) against him with a homerun and 4 RBIs. Capuano didn't pitch particularly  well against the Reds, giving up 6 runs in 5 1/3 innings. He managed to get the win as the Mets held on for a 10-9 victory.

Terry Collins after the 7-3 loss in the 10th inning, “It all comes down to what we talked about February 14. We've got to play fundamentally sound baseball. There are nights we don't do that.”
