MCL Tear For Murphy, Done For Season

According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork, Daniel Murphy suffered a Grade 2 tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and is done for the season, according to a source familiar with the injury. Murphy will not require surgery, but will have a four-month recovery time.

Sad to see this happen to Murphy who was having such a production season for the Mets. Murphy was finally getting everyday playing time and showed why he should be in the line-up. Granted he still struggles at times on defense and on the bases, but his offense was a pleasure to watch this season. Murphy on the season was 125-for-391 (.320) 6 HRs and 49 RBIs. Also had an on-base percentage of .362. Murphy's production will surely be missed as the Mets will have to call up some players from Triple-A Buffalo to replace him on the roster.
