Chipper Strikes Again, Mets Fall to Braves 5-4

In a hot and humid day at Citi Field turned into a miserable one for the Mets when Reyes and Murphy went down. Jose Reyes was taken out in the 2nd inning because of stiffness in his left hamstring, the same spot that landed him on the disabled list last month. Mets are unsure how he got hurt, possibly while running to first.

Chipper Jones hit a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning off of Bobby Parnell, as the Braves take the rubber game 6-5. Heyward, Gonzalez and Constanza homered early for the Braves as they finally figured out Mets rookie pitcher Dillon Gee. Dan Uggla also extended his hitting streak to a career-best 28 games. The Mets fall again to 9 games back in the wild card as the Braves gave the Mets their sixth loss in seven games. X-rays on Murphy's leg were negative, but the team was waiting for MRI results on both players.

Game Notes:
  • David Wright played SS for the 1st time in his MLB career.
  • Freddie Freeman went 0 for 4 for Atlanta, ending his 20-game hitting streak.
  • 29,853 in Attendance at Citi Field
