Tatis Pinch-Hit GS Wins It vs Rockies

Mets vs Rockies (Game 1 Recap)

On day where Omar Minaya held a press conference to discuss the firing of Tony Bernazard, to Minaya and Adam Rubin arguing on live television, the Mets came away with a win over the Wild Card leading Colorado Rockies. Perez looked good following a 1-2-3 inning in the first. Then came the second inning where he gave up a lead off single to Brad Hawpe and next batter Troy Tulowitzki took him deep for a 2-0 Rockies lead. Fourth inning came and Jeff Francoeur hit a solo home run to deep left field, making the score 2-1 Rockies after 4 innings. Perez took the mound in the 5th inning down 2-1 and served up a solo home run to Clint Barmes extending the Rockies lead to 3-1. Perez didn't really have a good outing once again walking four batters in five innings of work.

Perez line: 5.0IP 5H 3R 3ER 4BB 5K 2HR

Bottom of the 6th inning was where the Mets tied the game 3-3 on some nice hitting by Castillo & Wright. Murphy single that inning scoring Castillo and moving Wright the second. Francoeur popped out to right moving Wright to third. Former Rockies OF Cory Sullivan hit a Sac Fly scoring Wright from third, knotting the score 3-3 after six innings. Then came the bottom of the eight inning where the bases were loaded for pinch-hitter Fernando Tatis and one out in the inning. Fernando was 13-for-52 in situational plays (25% in the major and 2nd highest among players in the major leagues). Tatis was down 0-2 in the count when Juan Rincon served up a Grand slam homer by Tatis giving the Mets a 7-3 lead. That was the 1st pinch-hit grand slam home run by a Met since 5/30/2000 by Todd Pratt vs LA. Mets are now 6.5 games behind the Rockies for the Wild Card lead and still 10.5 back of the Phillies. Even with all the drama circling around the firing of Bernazard, the altercation of Minaya and Rubin, the Mets extend there winning streak to three games and there 1st 3-game win streak since May.

W - P. Feliciano (3-3)
L - J. Rincon (2-2)
